Bereavement Counsellor in Newbury and Thatcham

Grief does not follow rules. It arrives differently for everyone, and it does not keep to a timetable. If you are in Newbury, Thatcham or the surrounding villages and you are looking for support after a bereavement, I am here.
My name is Sally Hunt. I am a specialist bereavement counsellor based in Pangbourne, and loss is the only thing I work with. I see clients from across West Berkshire — from Newbury and Thatcham to the quieter villages of Hermitage, Bucklebury, Chapel Row, East Ilsley and beyond.
Serving Newbury, Thatcham and the surrounding villages
West Berkshire covers a wide area of small communities where specialist services can feel hard to reach. My practice in Pangbourne is accessible from the A4 and A34 corridors, and I also offer sessions by Zoom — which many clients, particularly those in more rural locations, find works well and removes the need to travel at what can be a very difficult time.

The kind of losses I work with
People come to me after many kinds of bereavement. Losing a partner or spouse. Losing a parent — sometimes expected, sometimes sudden. A child. Losing someone to a long illness, where the grief began long before the death. Losing a close friend or colleague. Pet bereavement, which is a genuine and often underestimated loss.
I also work with people experiencing anticipatory grief — when someone you love is seriously ill and you are already grieving. And with people who lost someone years ago but have never had the space to properly grieve.

What sessions are like
Sessions are unhurried, gentle and entirely led by you. There is no fixed structure, no homework, no expectation of how you should be feeling. We simply talk — about the person you have lost, about what grief feels like for you, about how you are managing day to day. Over time, most people find that having that consistent, dedicated space makes a real difference.
I am BACP accredited and hold a specialist qualification in bereavement counselling.
